Fall is coming-and you know what that means? Pumpkins and candy corn and apples, oh my! Crisp air and warm sweaters are best accompanied by a tart treat. Not to mention, apple picking is one of our favorite family-friendly activities to do in Washington in the fall. Not sure where to start?

Here are the 4 best places to go apple picking (or tasting!) in Washington this year.

What Are The Best Apple Picking Spots in Washington?

Washington is a great place to be in the fall. Whether you're visiting the area or a local looking for a fun Saturday activity, we highly recommend the following places for apple picking (and tasting!) this fall.

Although this farm doesn't have U-pick apples, Lattin's Country Cider Mill and Farm is well worth the trip. Family fun will ensue when your kids notice the petting zoo and play area.

As parents, you'll enjoy the farmers market and bakery-just don't forget to sample the cider. Their sweet apple cider has won several national awards-like First Place at the North American Farmers Direct Marketing Association.

Top Tips For Fall Apple Picking Near Seattle

Did you know that Washington produces about 60 percent of the nation's supply of apples? It's true-and apple orchards in Washington state love guests. So, what should you look for when taking your family to the orchard this fall? Here are our top tips to make your apple picking trip a success.

  • Call ahead before visiting to make sure the orchard you want to visit has self-picking options open the day of your visit.
  • Let the kiddos have the low-hanging fruit (or bring along a small step ladder so they can reach the apples!).
  • Peak apple picking season lasts September through the end of October, so plan accordingly.
  • Bring along your own bags or boxes in case the orchard has run out of them.
  • Wear rubber boots (as the orchards tend to be a bit muddy!).
  • Check with the orchard before bringing Fido along-many orchards have a no-pet policy to help you and your pup stay safe.
  • Plan how many apples you'll want before you arrive-you don't want to over pick!
