Why Are Subarus Known For Head Gaskets?

Photo by Jakob Rosen on Unsplash   Welcome to the new blog! We’re going to talk about the elephant in the back seat: Subaru’s issues with head gaskets.    While most Subaru fans LOVE their cars, one of the most frustrating elements of owning a Subaru has been the company’s lack of accountability for faulty head gaskets. Unreliable material in manufacturing has made the head gaskets a regular issue. These are three symptoms to watch for that may indicate head gasket damage:   Coolant overflow Coolant or oil leaks beneath your vehicle Overheating engine on highway or mountainous roads   Many models were affected over a decade… here’s the Subie models that might need he ... read more

Best Camping Tips & Tricks For Subaru Owners

Welcome to the April blog for Suburb Service! We’re glad you’re here. We hope you and your family are healthy, happy and hope everything is working out well for you this year, amidst the uncertainty of COVID-19. Staying safe as a family can be tricky in these times, so congratulations to you if you’ve managed to persevere. Most Subaru owners already know that Subarus make good camping vehicles. Their all-wheel drive is good for navigating across difficult terrain that would rule out other vehicles. Some of you who are new to Subarus might be surprised to learn just how adept they are at camping! There are two main lifestyles in Subaru camping. The first is the Cowboy Camper who sleeps in the car itself or in a sleeping bag under the stars, and brings less with them. The second is the Overland Camper who has a proper tent to set up in the wild or a tent resting on the roof of the Subaru. Cowboy Camping is roughing it. What Makes A Subaru Engine Different From Other Engines?

What Makes A Subaru Engine Different From Other Engines?

Do you understand how fundamentally unique your Subaru is? Most Subaru owners know there’s something quite special and unique about their Subaru. You see it in their love and loyalty for the brand. Why Do Subaru Drivers Love Their Subarus So Much?

Why Do Subaru Drivers Love Their Subarus So Much?

Make no mistake, Subaru “Love” is a very genuine thing. Even hardened skeptics like TorqueNews have come to acknowledge that Subies have a particular love for their cars that transcends the normal relationship between driver and vehicle.  The exact defining element is often elusive, but Subies agree that it’s there-- but cannot agree on that defining element. We’ve isolated five of the most significant factors: Zip. Subaru cars are known to be sporty and cool, and that goes a long way with people and the cars they love. Resale. Subarus tend to hold their value pretty well, and that’s no small thing considering the abuse they take.  Reliable. They’re known for being fairly reliable as a brand. Versatility. You can upgrade them and use them in wonderful ways. Friends. The peer support for Subies is unlike any other brand. The Jets and the Sharks never h ... read more

Big News From Suburb Service

Dear Friends and Family, When Suburb Service’s owner Candy Johns passed away a few short months ago, so very many of you responded with warmth and kindness, and let us know how loved Candy was in the North Seattle community that her shop served. We are forever grateful for the love and care you showed all of us here at Suburb Service, especially to Howard Musolf, her husband. We understand that there may be some anxiety over what her passing wil mean to our shop. There are some ventures that are too specific to a person to continue when they pass. A business can often be like that. Suburb Service, however, is not that kind of business. For almost all of our years, we’ve been a woman-owned business in a largely-male industry. We’ve always been forward-thinking, from the moment Howard began it, to the day he gave it fully to Candy, and in the years she made such a remarkable difference to North Seattle. We continue to be forward-thinking to this day.  Candy was ... read more
